In the south, hospitality is everything. Gulnara runs a small bakery, and her family is known in the neighbourhood for the best samsa and the loudest weddings. Her son Daniyar is getting married this spring.

The family's story

Daniyar's grandmother says a toi is not complete without guests from far away. When she was young, travellers on the road to Tashkent would stop at her father's house and be fed like family. Aigerim and Daniyar met at university in Almaty, and now both families are coming together in Shymkent. We would be honoured if you joined us for both days: the tears of the farewell and the joy of the welcome.
